Guide
Answer in a language you do not write quickly
Reading a second language is easy. Writing it is slow. Say the sentence in the language you think in, and the finished text lands in the field in the other one.
Set it once
- Open Settings → Dictation.
- Set Type in to the language you want on screen.
- Anywhere on your Mac: put the cursor in the field, hold ⌥Space, say the sentence, let go.
Punctuation and capitals come with it. “As spoken” is the other setting, and it types whatever language you spoke.
Where this saves you
- Support and client mail. Answer at the speed you think, in the language the customer wrote in.
- A work chat that runs in English. Say the long explanation instead of assembling it word by word.
- Anything public. A post, a comment, a pull request description — the ones you would otherwise keep short because writing them is work.
- Studying. Speaking a sentence and seeing it written correctly is a lesson on its own.
Good to know
Thirteen languages, and the pair is not fixed: speak any of them, type any of them.
Names Jarq has never met can come back spelled by ear. Add yours to the vocabulary in Settings and they will be spelled your way from then on.
What arrives is a machine translation of what you said — good enough to send most of the time, and worth a glance before you do.
